There are many different types of ceremonies from which you can choose. The most traditional and popular is the unity candle. The unity candle features three candles. There are two candles on either side of the unity candle, which sits in the middle. Tradition dictates that the mother of the groom and the mother of the bride light the two candles surrounding the unity candle. The unity candle itself is lit by the bride and groom.

Another popular and trendy type of unity ceremony is the sand ceremony. If you happened to see the wedding between TV Bachelorette Trista Rehn and Ryan Sutter, you saw they used sand for their ceremony. For this, you will need three containers. The bride and groom each have a container of sand which they pour into the third container. The sand is sometimes a different color for the bride and groom. When the sand is poured and combined it represents the joining of the bride and groom as one, a joining that cannot be separated once it is done.
