The basics of a digital camera revolve around terms like pixel, sensor, pixel count, white balance, sensitivity, optical zoom, or digital zoom. With so many people picking up digital cameras these days, it's incontestable that the switch from film photography to digital photography is well underway. The lithium batteries will also work, but are much more expensive and usually cannot be charged. Preferably choose a camera that takes batteries that are unexacting to source, such as AA size. Rechargeable batteries can be expensive when they do need replacing. There are various sorts of batteries available for digital cameras today. Remember that batteries can get overcharged so look out for a battery charger that has an automatic switching-off feature.
